Wikidata records 63 hotels that opened in the 1840s, from 1840 to 1849, in 20 countries; most of them in the United Kingdom (13), Germany (8) and the United States (8).[1][2] The best known, by the number of Wikipedia language editions with an article on it, is Peckforton Castle, opened in 1844. The year with the most recorded openings is 1840, with 11.

Method

A hotel is listed under the year of the earliest date Wikidata gives for its official opening or, where it gives none, its inception. For a building converted into a hotel, the inception is often that of the building. Hotels that have since closed are included. Decades with at least 25 dated hotels have a list of their own. Within each year, hotels are in alphabetical order.[1][2]
